Sealed Cylindrical Roller Bearings
SKF NNF - LSV series of double row full complement cylindrical roller bearings are available with seals, shields and non-contact type sealing portions. This type of bearing is ideal for use in the aerospace, machine tool, automotive, medical, and pharmaceutical industries. These bearings are known for their long life and high quality performance. They are also available in various sizes to meet the needs of different applications.
Seals
Having a good sealing system is important for several reasons. For example, it helps prevent the entry of dust and dirt into the bearing. Aside from that, seals protect the lubrication and disperse stress loads.
Having a proper sealing system is a prerequisite for a long life span. Ideally, the seal should be mounted in the same plane as the bearing. This will help minimize any vibrations from contacting with the frame. The seal should also be able to resist any external influences, which will help the bearing to operate in its most efficient state.
Seals are usually designed on the inner ring side. This makes it easier for a bearing to be properly lubricated. The seal is also the best possible place for a lubricant to be introduced, since the roller and inner ring are not at risk of contacting.
Shields
Floating cylindrical roller bearings are available in sealed and open styles. In the sealed style, a moulded rubber seal is fixed in an outer ring groove. These seals are useful in applications that require regular cleaning or where water can be introduced into the bearing. However, they are not watertight.
In the open style, there are several different metallic shields to choose from. These are available for ball bearings, roller bearings and other cylindrical bearings. They can protect the bearing from contaminants and extend the life of the bearing. However, these seals have limitations when it comes to speed.
The open style of floating seals is not recommended for applications that require high speeds. This is because the seal can easily be damaged if it is under high pressure. This is especially true for applications that are used in high-temperature environments.
Non-contact type sealing portions
During the design and assembly of sealed cylindrical roller bearings, the design of the non-contact type sealing portions is a critical consideration. The purpose of the seal is to prevent contamination from entering the inner parts of the bearing. The seal must also be capable of retaining lubricant in the bearing chamber. This seal must also have a mechanism for bidirectional gas movement.
There are three main types of non-contact type sealing portions. These seals include: seal rings, labyrinth seals, and contacting isolators.
Seal rings are positioned within grooves within the outer race ring, the inner race ring, or the inner race ring. They are often made of a plastic or nylon material. They have a thin lip for leakage protection.
Radial load
Depending on the design, cylindrical roller bearings can be used to carry heavy radial loads. Their high contact area means that they can distribute the load across a wider surface. They can also be used to carry high impact loads. However, these bearings are more sensitive to angular misalignment. This can result in alternating stresses in the ribs. Depending on the internal design, the degree of misalignment that can be tolerated will vary.
Cylindrical bearings are available as single or double row. They can also be manufactured with a cage. They are usually manufactured from low-carbon steel. The steel is heated to a high temperature for maximum life. They also undergo carburizing after being machined to the desired depth. Depending on the application, it may be necessary to use a high-carbon grade of bearing quality steel.
