The invention includes a mill rotor 180 with a primary processing surface 310. The rotor is designed to provide uniformly high shear forces to the fluid as it moves through the gap. The rotor's axial length is 5.0 inches and its center diameter is 1.562 inches. The rotor's pitch angle is a' which preferably matches the angle of the rotor's axis of rotation 320. The pitch angle is also increased with increases in rotor diameter.
The rotor 180 is supported on a shaft 130. The shaft is moved axially relative to the mill body 110. A thrust bearing 148 supports the shaft 130. A timing belt 160 engages the thrust bearing 148 and rotates the shaft 130. The timing belt is driven by a stepper motor 200. This motor is controlled by a computer 202.
Hard to calibrate
Accura collaidal mill bearings are characterized by a support system for the timing belt. The timing belt is used to regulate the gap between the mill stator and the mill rotor. The design of the belt is based on the use of a thrust bearing supported in a threaded sleeve.
