Types of Precision Angular Contact Ball Bearing
There are several different types of precision angular contact ball bearings. These types have higher precision and are typically used in applications where high speeds are required. In addition, they can accommodate very low runout. These types of bearings are available worldwide and are designed to meet requirements for high positioning accuracy, energy efficiency, and long life.
The life of a bearing is dependent on several factors. These factors include the amount of wear and tear a bearing experiences, the rotational precision required, the maximum speed, and any sound levels. The Timken Engineering Manual gives guidance on initial bearing selection. It also provides shelf life guidelines for grease-lubricated bearings.
One of the most important considerations when choosing a bearing is the amount of slack or tightness. If the bearing is too loose, its life will be reduced. Too tight of a bearing will lead to excessive lubrication and elastic distortion. It can also cause roller to track misalignment and end-to-end shock loading, which can reduce the bearing's life. Ideally, the bearing should have a small degree of preload, with only a slight positive contact with the track.
Precision angular contact ball bearings come in single and double-row configurations. Each type has a different range of precision and capacity. They are most often used in machines that need to support radial and axial loads. They are also commonly used in electric motors, pumps, and compressors.
